According to news coming from British newspaper ‘The Independent’, Chelsea defender and Serbian international Branislav Ivanovic is set to sign a new contract with the club before the end of this month.
Ivanovic’s current contract with Chelsea will run out at the end of this season.
His form has been questionable of late and there were rumours that the defender would be saying goodbye to the Stamford Bridge faithful in the summer.
Manchester City are one of the clubs that are reportedly interested in his acquisition. However, if sources are believed to be true, interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink is set to award the Serbian with a one-year extension.
Chelsea fans might not be amused with his contract extension given the level of performances from the Serbian in recent months.
Ivanovic joined the London side in 2008 as an Avram Grant signing. Since then, the Serbian has made more than 300 appearances for the club and has won every trophy bar the FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea.
